This two part article presents an overview of the milling industry in America in the 1700s. The main focus of the article is Oliver Evans and his five inventions that revolutionized milling. Part two covers Evans' publication of the Young Mill-Wright and Miller's Guide in 1795 and the effect this practical technical manual had on the industry. There are links to a digitized copy of the 1795 Young Mill-Wright and Miller's Guide as well as links to illustrations of typical Oliver Evans mills.
